Your health, therefore, is truly your wealth. As you pursue financial freedom and independence, you should also take steps to ensure you live a healthy lifestyle. Tips for Healthy Living

Good health does not come automatically. You have to deliberately change your lifestyle to improve your health. The following are two main requirements for healthy living:

i) Active Lifestyle

There is a common saying that movement is life. To put it in another way, if you stop moving, you’ll die. While this may sound extreme, it holds a lot of truth. If you are a couch potato, your body will simply adapt to your new circumstances and start shutting down. For one, the body will slow down your metabolism since you do not need all the energy the body produces. The end result is an accumulation of fat in the body, which will increase your body weight significantly. Secondly, your body will start reducing the size of your muscles since you do not need them to sit down and watch movies or play video games. This will make you weaker and weaker. Thirdly, your cardiac muscles will weaken because your heart will always be pumping slowly due to your lack of activity. The end result will be a weak heart, high cholesterol levels, a weak body, and obesity, just to mention a few. You might also develop diabetes and heart disease among other types of health problems.

If you would like to improve your health, you must adopt an active lifestyle. Start jogging in the morning at least three times a week. If you are not a morning person, try jogging at any other time that is convenient for you. Just make sure you jog regularly. You can also go swimming several times every week. Even leisurely swimming has health benefits. If you have a bicycle, consider riding it to work or during the weekends. These exercises are great for a number of reasons. First, they will build your muscles, making you stronger in the process. Secondly, they work your cardiac muscles, which makes your heart healthier and stronger. Whatever you do, just spend less time sitting down or lying in bed.

ii) Eating Right

Most health problems nowadays can be linked to eating habits. Ideally, you should avoid certain foods, such as deep fried foods and high-calorie foods to improve your health. For instance, you should stop eating French fries, crisps, steak, pasta, rice and other high-calorie foods. This is because your body is designed to store excess calories the body may get. Be sure to also avoid overindulging in alcoholic beverages as well as foods containing industrial sugars and chemical ingredients. These foods should be replaced with fruits and vegetables. Whenever you experience hunger pangs, consider snacking on fruits and vegetables. For instance, you can eat an apple in the mid-morning or late afternoon at the office.

In addition to avoiding certain foods, you should also change how you eat. Instead of having three main meals per day, you should split the portions into six. The body normally digests small quantities of food more efficiently than large chunks of food. Make sure you space these meals evenly to ensure you get the best results.

The Importance of Resting

While exercise and an active lifestyle are highly recommended, you should not overdo it. Performing high-intensity exercises on a daily basis can cause more harm than good. This is because your muscles will get worn out fast and cause injuries. Ideally, you should rest the day after an intense workout. Furthermore, you should have at least seven hours of restful sleep every day. This is usually when the body goes into recovery mode. Another important tip is to always have a full medical check-up annually. This will help in the identification of developing medical problems, most of which be treated successfully when diagnosed in the early stages.
